Pursuant to the announcement of New Telecom Policy, 1999 (NTP-99), Government have decided to migrate existing Public Mobile Radio Trunk Service (PMRTS) licensees to NTP-99 regime and issue additional licenses. The existing operators shall be allowed to migrate to digital technology at their option. The existing operators shall be given preference for migration to digital technology. The fresh licenses shall be considered after verifying the requirement of frequency spectrum in a particular service area. The period of license shall be 20 years.
